Let's start by recognizing that this has been by far the worst World Series of poker ever. We have played poorly, and had matching luck. Today we are enrolled in a very high-level no limit hold'em tourney. Because of the level, there will be very few players, perhaps 500.
We are playing six handed, so the game moves too quickly to take notes or to write commentary. I can only tell you one of the hands from the first two rounds.
I will give it to you like a television show. Seat number three has about the 25000 starting stack and has ace king of hearts, playing 75–150, he raises to 400. Everyone folds to the Big blind who has about 30,000 in chips and holds an eight of clubs and nine of hearts and calls.
The flop comes 3TJ with two hearts. The big blind bets 600 with his open ended straight draw. Seat 3 has a nut gut shot straight draw and a nut flush draw. He considers for a moment. Any queen gives him the nuts. Any heart that doesn't match the board gives him the nuts. The king or ace are also likely good. The 600 bet could be an attempt to steal, and the ace king wants to keep him in. So Seat 3 min-raises to 1200.The big blind calls hunting for his straight.
The turn comes queen of clubs. Miracle card for both players. The big blind bets out his straight for 1600. Seat 3 sees not only that he has the nut straight but even if his opponent also has a king ace, any heart will still give seat 3 the nut flush. Seat three min-raises to 3200.
Protecting his straight from the perceived threats of a bigger straight (king or ace river), a flush draw or a set filling up, the big blind raises to 9500. Seat 3 thinks for a moment and then pushes all in. The big blind calls and they show their cards. The big blind is drawing dead. The river pairs the Jack and Seat 3 takes it down to double up his chip stack.
Standing up on all four legs from Seat 3 the donkey raises his head and brays!
We close round two with 50,000 in chips.
All the best,
Braying Donkey
