We slowly drip down to 45,000 and then slowly get up to 55,000, Engaging only in relatively small pot action.
With an incredible amount of luck, we keep hitting the flop in some small way, giving us an opportunity to bet post flop and pick up a lot of little pots. We get up to about 60,000 in chips.
I only have time for two hands' discussion.
Seat 5 raises the minimum, to 400, and we call from the small blind with ace king of clubs. Normally we would bet this hand, but we feel like slow play. The big blind calls and the flop comes 4TA. Great flop for us. We check and it checks around. The turn comes a jack. We bet 800 and the big blind folds and seat five calls. The river comes a rag deuce. We bet 1200 and Seat 5 raises to 5200.
We have a great hand, but it just feels like he has us beat. He could have 10 Jack, Ace 10, Ace Jack, pocket tens or pocket jacks, or who knows what, perhaps even a queen king for the straight. Any of these would justify his pre-flop bet, his post flop slow play, his calling the turn, and his quest for money on the river. I don't know what it is, but it feels like he has us beat and I don't want to spend 4000 in chips to find out how. We lay down.
Halfway through round four we are in Seat 5 with AJ of clubs and raise to 550 playing 100 200 with 25 antes. The button raises to 1300 and we call.
The flop comes 58 Queen with two spades and one club. Not a good flop for us. However, we've been taking down a lot of pots by simply betting the flop, so we do so here in an attempt to purchase. We bet 1100. He calls. The turn comes Jd. Great turn for us. Unless he has a queen or an overpair, we are in good position. We bet out 1600 and again he calls. We would've liked to see a fold here, but let's just see what the river brings and hope for in an ace or Jack. The river comes Jack of hearts! We have a set of Jack's.
We bet 3200 hoping for a call. He must've been watching our play for quite some time, because if he did, this would be the time for him to raise and push us out, which he does. He raises to 11,000. We look over and ask him how many more chips he has. About 8000. We push all in and he folds. Great hand.
We end round four with almost 70,000 chips. So far, this has been our best tournament yet. That said, we are only four hours in. Time to find that zen space.
All the best,
Zen Donkey
